About Egyptrixx
In just over one year, his distinct sonic aesthetic has become an acclaimed presence in underground music, garnering praise from heavyweight DJ’s, including Sinden, Mary Ann Hobbs and Drop the Lime, and influential publications such as Fader, Xlr8r and The Wire magazine. All of his recent records have also seen regular radio play on BBC Radio 1 and Kiss FM among others. His unique and energetic live sets are in-demand, with headlining gigs banked all over Europe and North America and a busy touring schedule in upcoming months.
He makes celestial club music; jeep music for a Saturn desert. There is an exhilarating right-but-wrong tension that all of Egyptrixx’ tracks share – a shifting balance between melodic and dissonant, rapturous and antisocial. His releases continue to challenge the status quo and impress with a unique style informed by elements of techno, house, dubstep and pop music.
With critically acclaimed releases already out on Night Slugs and Ramp Recordings, and his forthcoming debut LP slated for an early 2011 release, the future looks bright for Egyptrixx.
About Dubbel Dutch
Dubbel Dutch (a.k.a. Marc Glasser), a 24-year-old NY native who now calls Austin home. He’s been producing since high school—although he refers to his early creations as “really bad IDM and dubstep that I wouldn’t let anyone hear”—but in recent months his Trollsta EP and Throwback EP, both on Palms Out Sounds, have made waves with their combination of UK funky, classic rave, and old-school house. He also dabbles in dancehall, Dutch house, kuduro, jungle, and whatever other styles strike his fancy.

Lights Down Low 04.24.10
with
FELIX CARTAL (popular music tour • dim mak • vancouver)
CHRISTIAN MARTIN (dirtybird • trapez)
Lights Down Low is back for April with two headliner’s FELIX CARTAL and CHRITAIN MARTIN. Both of these artists’ exemplify what we love about music at LDL, Felix represents the new breed of industry players. Owing his success almost entirely to word-of-mouth and blog-endorsements, he is representative of the grassroots music movement that has been created due to the Internet, and has catapulted this bedroom producer to one of the hottest electro producers/remixers on the planet. Christian Martin is one of the founder’s of what is arguably one of the most influential electronic music label’s on the planet DIRTYBIRD. He has helped to redefine house music into a hybrid of electro and hip-hop with world music influences. He helped to redefine genre lines in music and raise the bar for the rest of the electronic world.
Felix Cartal’s first ever show in the US was with us at Lights Down Low 2 1/2 years ago at the 222. Since then he has been toured alongside the likes of MSTRKRFT, the Bloody Beetroots, and LA Riots. And, his music has become a staple in the sets of artists such as Felix Da Housecat, Benny Benassi, Steve Aoki, and many others. We are proud to welcome our dear friend Felix back to Lights Down Low for the the release party of his new album “popular music” which has just come out on Dim Mak records.
Christian Martin’s love affair with electronic music began in 1995, as an early attendee at Southern California’s now legendary Moontribe full moon desert parties. After absorbing late 90’s club life in New York, London, and Los Angeles, Christian settled in San Francisco in the spring of 2000. He started playing records in 2002 under the tutelage of his brother, Justin Martin, armed with a stack of Justin’s old vinyl and used Technics 1200’s from Sammy D. In 2003, inspired by the massive desert soundsystems of old, Christian founded the dirtybird soundsystem. Along with co-founders Justin Martin, Worthy, and Claude VonStroke, dirtybird’s Sunday afternoon BBQ’s have quickly become a Golden Gate Park institution.

the Ice Cream Social
January 15, 2010 on 2:42 pm | In Uncategorized | 5 CommentsTonight is the premiere of the new party I am doing with my good friend Shane King from Hacksaw Entertainment (legit sf promoters), the Ice Cream Social (3rd Fridays at 222 Hyde) I am really excited about it because it allows me to share my new-found love of cooking and all things culinary through the making of homemade Ice Cream to give out at the party. I am planning on doing a different flavor every month. For this first one I am sticking with a flavor I have made before and making Vanilla with a salted butter caramel swirl, it is delicious!

But not only do we have delicious Ice Cream but we have brought out Kingdom to play to help us kick off the first one. Kingdom is a Brooklyn-based producer and DJ whose signature sets and productions have been gathering a rabid following since he released his first mixtape in 2006. Since then, DJs from Diplo to BBC’s Annie Mac have given his tracks spins, and with his recent signing to Fools Gold Records and his debut single “Mindreader” on its way, there’s no doubt that Kingdom is the young American producer to watch. Kingdom may play everything from kuduro to juke, but R&B is his first love, and it shows in his bass-heavy remixes and original tracks, often featuring R&B vocal samples on top of his trademark production style—what some have called “a Brooklyn take on the UK garage sound.” This vanguard of tropical blends, Latin stylings and bass-heavy, dance-savvy sounds from around the world is catching the ear of more than a few tastemakers. Kingdom has received positive press and praise from magazines such as The Fader and XLR8R, to trendsetting blogs such as Discobelle and Fluokids, but his eclectic, forward-thinking style blows right past the buzz. Bok Bok of the London-based Lower End Spasm blog attested: “The genres Kingdom dips into range across the board, but his mixes create within themselves a new logic, a gutter house aesthetic that just makes sense.”
I am REALLY excited about this!
Check out this recent mix he did for discobelle.
